On 15 November, 2018, the first Summit on 5G For Ubiquitous Connectivity, Xuchang, China 2018 was held in the grand theatre of Xudu, Xuchang. This summit was hosted by Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) and Xuchang city government, undertaken by the National Key Laboratories of Internet And Interchange Technologies of BUPT, Management Committee of Xuchang Urban-Rural Integration Demonstration Zone, Xuchang China Unicorn Co., Ltd. and Henan 863 Software Incubator Co., Ltd. The main theme was ‘5G ubiquitous - intelligence manufacturing - digital China’. Based on the theme of ‘5G ubiquitous - intelligence manufacturing - digital China’, speeches and further discussions were conducted during the summit. A total of twelve frontline 5G technologies research experts, including Junliang Chen, the academician from Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) and Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), Chao Lin (second right in above photo), director of Henan Production Promotion Center and chairman of Henan 863 Software Incubator Co., Ltd., Ping Zhang, director of National Key Laboratories of Internet And Interchange Technologies of BUPT, and Weitang Zhai, vice director of Henan Production Promotion Center and director of Henan 863 Software Co., Ltd. gathered together in Xuchang, which represents that 5G era is getting closer to residents. During the opening ceremony, Wuyue Hu, Xuchang municipal party Committee Secretary has mentioned in his speech that nowadays, 5G Mobile Communicating Techonology has arrived. Main countries and cities are competing globally for the commanding heights in the future developments. This summit was in line with the new trend of the new information technology development, showcased the new achievements of 5G technology research and development application, built up the new platform for numerous businesses in terms of innovation developments and also contributed to accelerate our 5G industry into a hundred billion level industrial cluster. Secretary Hu also expressed that we will use the success of this summit as an opportunity, to continuously lead the development of 5G industry, expedite the 5G ubiquitous construction in towns, quicken the deep integration of 5G and traditional industry and emerging industry and speed up the high quality development of the economic society.
The secretary of the party committee of BUPT Jianwei Wu said, ‘5G technology is taking big strides. It provides hundred times of peak transmission rate to 4G, its millisecond transmission delay and thousand billion level of connecting power, is the key fundamental infrastructure to the digital transition of economic society. Its impact is from online to offline, from consumption to production, from platform to ecology, driving our country’s digital economic development to a new stage.’ This summit focused on the creative and integration opportunities between ‘5G ubiquitous’ and industry applications, was very much accord with the current technology development trend and timing, and also very down to earth. Wei tang Zhai (third left in above photo), vice director of Henan Production Promotion Centre and Henan 863 Software Co., Ltd. came up with that 5G, as the fifth generation of communicating technology, has the features of high transmit rate, large network capacity, short delay and so on. It will centralize on users to contruct a omni-directional information ecosystem, which eventually realize a broad connectivity where ‘information on-call and things stand-by’.
In recent years, Xuchang has placed high attention on the information industry development, came very clear to the goal of ‘city of internet economy’, and also purposely utilized the new information technology to build up one of the five hundred billion level industrial clusters. The Transition Development Action Plan of Xuchang Electronic Information Technology 2017-2020, which was published by Xuchang municipal party committee and city government last year, has clearly defined 5G application as one of three advantageous industries that will be further expanded and reinforced. As known, this summit focused on ‘5G ubiquitous’, highlighting internationalization, professionalization and industrialization. It put forth efforts to create a platform for domestic and overseas well-known industry leading enterprises, notable colleges and universities, academicians and industry experts to liaise and co-operate. Working together with all parties to move forward the digital Henan construction, to enhance the new development power energy and facilitate the high quality economic development.
In 2017, Xuchang has reached a cooperative agreement with BUPT, to set up an Internet and Interchange Technology National Key Laboratory BUPT-Xuchang Base. BUPT, the national team who studies 5G technology on one side, and Xuchang, the leader of digital construction in Henan on the other side, have mutually agreed to build up a Xuchang mode – a mixture of production, study and research – to realize the win-win development.
In March 2018, BUPT-Xuchang base has been officially launched. This base has a clear development vision plan, at the same time connects the scientific research and demand docking system and results and application docking system of BUPT and Xuchang. It has formed a set of projectized policies and practices to help the economic transition upgrade of local industries. It gradually became the representative and spotlight of innovation development ideas in Xuchang and is holding certain impact within the whole province and even the whole country. This summit will be in line with the new trend of the new information technology development, showcase the new achievements of 5G technology research and development application, build up the new platform for numerous businesses in terms of innovation developments and also contribute to accelerate our 5G industry into a hundred billion level industrial cluster. Xuchang will use the success of this summit as an opportunity to continuously lead the development of 5G industry, expedite the 5G ubiquitous construction in towns, quicken the deep integration of 5G and traditional industry and emerging industry and speed up the high quality development of the economic society.
Around 150 people participated in this summit, including domestic academicians total 6 people, leaders from Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China and Telephone Industry Committee and some industry experts total 6 people, leaders from BUPT total 11 people and 34 well-known domestic enterprise honored guests .
